Volunteering in Our Community Shop
The Urchfont Community Shop is run by a fantastic team of volunteers (with a little help from our Managers and Duty Managers!) who give their time to keep the shop running smoothly, every single day. From serving customers to keeping the shelves stocked, it's the volunteers who make the shop the success it is.
Each week, there are 26 volunteer shifts to fill – from one-hour lunchtime slots (when the Post Office is closed) to three-hour sessions throughout the day. There are always two people on duty – either two volunteers or one volunteer with Mary, our postmistress – so no one is ever left to run the shop alone.
We welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, and no previous experience is needed – full training is provided. Some volunteers take on a regular weekly slot, while others prefer to sign up as and when they’re available. There’s no need to commit every week – many of our volunteers enjoy extended holidays or have other commitments, and simply return to helping out when they’re back in the village.
Volunteering is a rewarding way to support this much-loved community resource, meet new people, and become more involved in village life.
If you’d like to find out more or have a chat about what’s involved, just pop into the shop or contact Sarah Bamber, one of our rota managers, on 07841 368349.
We’d love to welcome you to the team!
